Low Carbon Wine Initiative

The Carbon Reduction Institute (CRI) has worked with several wineries in Australia to measure, reduce and offset their impact on climate change. This has included making particular ranges or vintages of wine ‘carbon neutral’ and marketing this to clients.

The Low Carbon Wine Initiative is an opportunity for all Australian wine-makers to take action against climate change. The initiative is designed to encourage a collective effort within the industry to lower emissions and raise awareness.

CRI can provide wineries with a comprehensive carbon assessment along with a suite of suggestions on how to reduce emissions. We take into account action already taken such as water and energy conservation measures. Once you receive your audit report, you will be provided with a variety of options to purchase carbon offsets to offset your unavoidable emissions. This could range from offsetting the entire vineyard to a particular range of wines to market as ‘carbon neutral’.

All wineries that come on board receive:

  • Australia’s most comprehensive greenhouse gas audit, written in compliance with leading international standards
  • Identification of immediate cost and emissions saving opportunities and assistance in implementing these
  • Winery and wine product level certification options - from carbon neutrality or a commitment to reduce emissions by a percentage
  • Recognised and credible logo use; as well as banners, stickers posters and a range of POS material to kick start your marketing and communication initiatives
  • Dedicated webpage that contains clear disclosure of your action and achievements in tackling climate change
  • Ongoing monitoring and advice to ensure that your brand receives the maximum long term value from certification
  • Cross marketing opportunities with every other Carbon Neutral certified company or product
