Tips for Business
We encourage businesses to implement carbon reduction measures such as:
Becoming carbon neutral
- Undertake an emissions assessment to calculate your business’s carbon footprint
- Offset any remaining, unavoidable carbon emissions
- Use our certification logos to promote yourself as an environmentally conscious business that is taking action on climate change
Waste management and recycling
- Minimise waste – consider the environment before printing; print double sided, and re-use paper as scrap paper before throwing it out
- Maximise recycling – talk to your waste service provider about their recycling services and how to implement effectively in your office
- Bring your own mug to work and bring lunch rather than buying takeaway dishes
Implement energy efficiency measures:
- Use lights in the office efficiently. Switch lights off when you are leaving the room. You can also install motion sensors in your office so that the lights turn off automatically when a room isn’t occupied
- Turn off your computer or set it to power saving mode when you are leaving your desk – even if it's only for a few minutes
- Use all appliances efficiently, including kitchen appliances and the air conditioner
- Install energy saving light bulbs in your office. The Carbon Reduction Institute provides light bulb fit-outs, including down lights, for a discounted price. Contact us to get a quote on our energy efficiency solutions
- Switch to green power. In most office-based businesses, carbon emissions from electricity are the greatest carbon footprint component. Green power is renewable energy, sourced from the sun, wind, water and waste and it will lower your carbon footprint considerably
- Install solar panels on your roof. You might even be able to feed power back into the grid and receive a cheque from the energy company at the end of the month! The Carbon Reduction Institute might be able to help you with getting government subsidies and benefits for renewable energy initiatives.
