Australian Based Schemes - NSW

The NSW Greenhouse Gas Reduction Scheme (GGAS) commenced in 2003 and is one of the first mandatory Greenhouse Gas Emissions Trading Schemes in the world. GGAS mainly targets emissions associated with electricity. That means projects to reduce emissions from electricity through efficient usage or cleaner production are accredited under the GGAS scheme.

The GGAS scheme split abatement from energy efficiency projects away from GGAS and into a separate Energy Saving Certificate Scheme.

The Carbon Reduction Institute is accredited to run projects under the ESC scheme including the distribution and installation of energy efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs, water efficient showerheads and the replacement of electric hot water systems with gas systems.
