Marginal Cost of Abatement Study
Whether you are a compliance party or a high energy user, you will benefit from understanding your marginal cost of abatement. Companies prepared with their marginal cost of abatement will know exactly what technologies to implement at certain carbon prices.
The study involves the following process:
Initial Seminar : Carbon Emissions Trading Scheme overview, how will it affect your business?
Initial Scoping meeting: The initial scoping meeting should include appropriate executives that can advise on an acceptable financial return on investment time frame, what net present value to use and advice on liquidity and cash flow. The meeting will also determine the deliverables timeline.
Engagement Seminar: Calculating direct carbon impacts, identifying reduction opportunities and preparing your marginal cost of abatement curve.
Education of facilities managers, production managers and engineers on how they determine the financial paybacks from abatement activities such as avoided energy use, avoided fuel consumption and the direct release of greenhouse gases, and how to model in the cost of carbon.
Abatement opportunity identification: With assistance from the CRI Staff, and after the education course the organisation's engineers, facilities and production managers will be required to find abatement opportunities and calculate the financial paybacks.
Marginal Cost of Abatement Curve report: CRI will assess the opportunities provided by the facilities managers and engineers, cataloging them in terms of return on investment. From this data CRI will advise on those opportunities to implement without a cost of carbon and provide a report detailing the companies marginal cost of abatement i.e. what technologies to implement as the price of carbon rises.
